Abdominal Surgery in Puerto Vallarta
Tummy Tuck: a flat, firm, and defined abdomen
A procedure designed to remove excess sagging skin from the abdomen, repair muscle separation after pregnancy (diastasis), and sculpt your waist.

What is Abdominoplasty or a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty (a tummy tuck) is a transformative surgical procedure designed to restore the strength, structure, and appearance of your abdominal area, especially after significant stretching from pregnancy or weight fluctuations.
Our philosophy prioritizes a deep and safe structural reconstruction. We do not limit ourselves to tightening the outer skin; we perform a meticulous internal tightening of the weakened rectus muscles using high-strength sutures, narrowing the natural corset of the abdomen. This not only flattens the contour but also improves posture and relieves lower back pain related to muscle weakness.
We permanently remove excess skin with stretch marks below the belly button, reposition the belly button to an anatomically youthful height, and sculpt the flanks to restore proportion and firmness.
What does change
- ✓Removal of hanging skin apron and lower stretch marks
- ✓Tightening and repair of separated abdominal muscles (diastasis)
- ✓Narrower waist and a flat, firm abdomen to the touch
What does not change
- •Deep visceral fat (which surrounds internal organs)
- •Skin elasticity during future extreme weight gain
- •Complete absence of marks (the horizontal scar is permanent)
What does the plan typically include?
Structural abdominal contouring is planned by combining several advanced techniques:
Internal Corset
Suturing the rectus abdominis muscles in two planes with high-strength sutures to restore firmness and flatten the abdominal wall.
Removal of Excess Skin
Removal of the excess block of skin and fat between the belly button and the pubis, stretching the healthy upper skin downward.
Belly Button Reconstruction
Aesthetic design and repositioning of the belly button through a very fine, circular incision hidden in its own natural depth to avoid exposed scars.
* It is frequently combined with liposuction of the flanks and lower back (Lipoabdominoplasty) for harmonious three-dimensional lateral contouring.
You might be a candidate if...
- ✓You have sagging or hanging skin and noticeable stretch marks following one or more pregnancies.
- ✓You have experienced massive weight loss and your abdominal skin did not contract.
- ✓You have weakness in the abdominal wall or a protruding abdomen resistant to diet and exercise.
- ✓You are not planning future pregnancies in the near term and maintain a stable weight.
It is advisable to evaluate alternatives if...
- •You plan to become pregnant again in the short term; uterine distention will stretch the muscle plication and skin again.
- •You have severe obesity (BMI > 30); prior weight loss is recommended to optimize safety and the final contour.
- •You do not wish to stop smoking weeks before surgery due to the extremely high risk of poor healing and wound separation (dehiscence) along the long incision.
How we define your plan
An individualized clinical evaluation is essential. We analyze vertical and horizontal excess skin, the degree of rectus diastasis through deep palpation, and rule out previous umbilical or ventral hernias.
“We seek to reconstruct your contour with complete safety. We plan the scar transparently to ensure the best aesthetic and functional result.”
We determine the exact separation of your abdominal muscles in centimeters to plan the plication.
We analyze the extent of stretch marks to determine how much skin can be safely removed without compromising a tension-free closure.
We safely rule out the presence of umbilical hernias or previous scars to plan a reconstruction without complications.
The procedure, explained simply
A low horizontal suprapubic incision and a small incision hidden within the belly button.
The rectus muscles are brought together and firmly joined at the midline with permanent sutures.
Loose lower skin is removed, and the belly button is brought out in its new aesthetic position.
Performed under general anesthesia. Typically requires a 1-night hospital stay for postoperative monitoring.
Preparing for Your Surgery
Responsible preparation is essential to optimize surgical safety and facilitate a smooth, comfortable postoperative recovery.
Recovery Timeline
Disciplined rest and a semi-flexed posture during the first week prevent excessive tension on the scar.
Days 1 to 7 — Semi-flexed posture
You must walk bent forward at about 15 degrees and sleep on your back with pillows under your knees. Continuous use of the compression garment and care of surgical drains are required.Days 7 to 10 — Drain removal
Dr. Uriel Muñoz removes the drains in the office once fluid output is minimal. You will begin to stand upright gradually.Weeks 2 to 3 — Return to sedentary work
Return to office tasks that do not require physical effort. Slow and gentle walks on flat ground. Daytime compression garment is mandatory.Weeks 6 to 8 — Exercise clearance
The internal scar from the muscle plication is firm. Resuming regular athletic training is authorized progressively. Use of silicone sheets on the external scar.

Ultra-low incision path specifically designed to be hidden by your underwear.
Healing checks and medical support throughout your entire postoperative recovery.
Combined planning with liposuction to define the waist and body contours evenly.
Surgical Safety and Realistic Expectations
As with any major surgery, a tummy tuck requires an ethical clinical analysis. During your medical consultation, we evaluate the quality and thickness of your skin, the thickness of abdominal fat, and your general medical history to mitigate risks.

Cost of a Tummy Tuck: What Determines the Budget
The cost of a tummy tuck should not be defined generically or without a prior medical evaluation. Each surgical budget is individualized and depends on the specifics of your case.
During your clinical consultation, Dr. Uriel Muñoz will evaluate your anatomy and define a tailored surgical plan. The final budget of the procedure is determined based on the following factors:
- •Degree of rectus diastasis and complexity of the muscle plication.
- •Combination with liposuction of the flanks and lower back (Lipoabdominoplasty).
- •Operating room fees and postoperative hospitalization hours.
- •Surgical team fees and postoperative follow-up consultations.
