Mini Tummy Tuck procedure in Puerto Vallarta - Dr. Uriel Muñoz
CLINICAL EXPLANATION

What is a mini tummy tuck?

A mini tummy tuck (mini abdominoplasty) is a conservative variation of the traditional tummy tuck, specifically designed to address localized skin laxity and excess tissue below the belly button.

Our philosophy prioritizes a minimally invasive technique with high definition. Since this procedure does not require belly button repositioning or dissection of the upper abdominal skin, the incisions are confined to the lower suprapubic region. It is very frequently combined with full abdomen liposuction to achieve an even fat thickness and a slender silhouette.

Ideal for patients at or near their ideal weight who present mild excess skin or crinkled folds below the belly button that do not respond to diet or exercise.

What it does change

  • Elimination of loose skin or 'pouch' below the belly button
  • Tightening of the lower abdominal muscles (below the belly button)
  • A short horizontal C-section-like scar

What it does NOT change

  • Skin laxity or stretch marks located above the belly button
  • The position or external appearance of the original belly button
  • Muscle separation (diastasis) in the upper abdomen
PRECISE METHODS

What does the plan typically include?

Lower abdominal contouring is designed with a selective and clean approach:

Local Resection

Lower Skin Removal

Trimming a horizontal ellipse of excess skin and fatty tissue just above the pubic area, without detaching the belly button from the deep muscle plane.

Limited Plication

Lower Muscle Tightening

Suturing and bringing the rectus muscles together exclusively below the belly button, ideal for patients with mild lower muscle laxity.

Outpatient Procedure

Rapid Recovery

A surgery typically lasting less than 1.5 hours, performed under epidural block with sedation, allowing same-day discharge.

This procedure might be for you if...

  • You have mild excess, wrinkled, or loose skin located strictly below the belly button.
  • You have mild muscle diastasis or localized bulging confined to the infraumbilical area.
  • You want to improve your abdominal contour with a short scar and minimal downtime.
  • You maintain a stable weight and are in good overall health.

It is recommended to evaluate alternatives if...

  • You have significant loose skin or stretch marks above the level of the belly button (requiring a full tummy tuck).
  • You have severe muscle diastasis in the upper abdomen.
  • You wish to correct large umbilical hernias that compromise the elevation of the abdominal flap.
DIAGNOSTIC STAGE

How we define your plan

An individualized clinical consultation is essential. We measure your skin elasticity and infraumbilical muscle tone to determine whether any upper laxity requires upgrading to a full tummy tuck for a smooth, optimal result.

Measuring Skin Laxity

We determine the exact excess of skin in centimeters below the belly button to plan the suprapubic excision.

Belly Button Assessment

We verify the height and integrity of the belly button to confirm it can remain in its natural position without noticeable pulling.

Ruling Out Upper Diastasis

We check for muscle separation above the belly button to ensure a mini tummy tuck will be sufficient.

OPERATING ROOM

The procedure, explained simply

IncisionsShort Suprapubic Incision

A single, low, short horizontal suprapubic scar, very similar to a C-section.

PlicationLower Muscle Suturing

Suturing and tightening of the rectus abdominis muscles only below the belly button level.

RemovalSkin Excision

The ellipse of excess infraumbilical skin and fat is safely and cleanly removed.

StayOutpatient

Performed under epidural block and sedation. Patients return home the same day.

PREOPERATIVE

Preparing for your surgery

Responsible preparation is essential to optimize surgical safety and facilitate a smooth, comfortable postoperative recovery.

01
Routine Blood TestsBasic preoperative laboratory panels and a baseline electrocardiogram (ECG) are required.
02
Smoking CessationYou must stop smoking weeks before surgery due to the significant risk of wound healing complications and tissue necrosis.
03
Compression Garment PreparationHave the recommended medical-grade abdominal compression garment ready for the immediate postoperative phase.
POSTOPERATIVE

Recovery timeline

Recovery from a mini tummy tuck is significantly faster and more comfortable than that of a full tummy tuck.

Days 1 to 3 — Rest and gentle walking

Bed rest with short walks around the house while wearing the compression garment. Walk with the torso slightly bent forward to relieve tension on the incision.

Days 7 to 10 — Suprapubic suture removal

Sutures are removed in the office. You can now stand fully upright comfortably. Return to sedentary office work.

Week 3 — Light cardiovascular exercise

Normal walking outdoors at a gentle pace. Daytime compression garment use remains mandatory.

Week 6 — Full activity clearance

Complete healing of the internal tissues. You can resume weight training, high-impact cardio, and normal exercise routines. Begin using silicone sheets on the scar.

Personalized healing monitoring and medical support throughout recovery.

Outpatient Approach

Short-stay procedure designed for comfortable same-day discharge.

ETHICAL COMMITMENT

Surgical safety and realistic expectations

Like any body contouring surgery, a mini tummy tuck requires an ethical clinical analysis. During your medical consultation, we assess muscle elasticity, skin laxity, and circulatory history to minimize risks and confirm if the surgery is appropriate for you.

Permanent ScarAlthough shorter than a full tummy tuck scar, it is permanent and requires consistent care with silicone sheets or gels.
Risks of SmokingSmoking severely compromises blood flow to the lower abdominal skin, significantly increasing the rate of poor healing.
Fixed Belly Button PositionThe belly button is not moved; if skin laxity extends above the belly button, this procedure will yield unsatisfactory results.
Garment ComplianceWearing the abdominal compression garment continuously for 4 weeks is mandatory to prevent fluid build-up (seroma).

FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY

Cost of a mini tummy tuck: factors that define your quote

The cost of a mini tummy tuck should not be defined generically or without a previous medical evaluation. Each surgical quote is personalized and depends on the specific details of your case.

During your clinical evaluation, Dr. Uriel Muñoz will assess your anatomy and define a customized surgical plan. The final quote for the procedure is determined based on the following factors:

  • Need for infraumbilical muscle plication (tightening).
  • Addition of liposuction for the full abdomen or flanks.
  • Fees of the surgeon, surgical assistant, and anesthesiologist.
  • Operating room fees for a short-stay outpatient facility.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about a mini tummy tuck

A full tummy tuck corrects sagging across the entire abdomen (both above and below the belly button), requires repositioning the belly button (creating a scar around it), and allows for complete muscle plication. A mini tummy tuck only focuses on the area below the belly button, does not require repositioning or scarring the belly button, features a much shorter horizontal scar, and involves a shorter recovery time.
Yes, but to a limited extent. Muscle tightening (plication) can be performed exclusively in the infraumbilical zone (below the belly button). If a patient has muscle separation (diastasis) in the upper abdomen (above the belly button), a full tummy tuck is required to repair it.
The scar is located horizontally in the suprapubic area, very similar to a C-section scar but extending slightly to the sides. Dr. Uriel Muñoz performs the incision very low so that it remains completely hidden beneath the line of any underwear or swimsuit.
As a less invasive surgery, recovery is faster. A period of 7 to 10 days of relative rest is recommended. The patient can return to sedentary office work in approximately 10 days, avoiding lifting heavy objects and continuing to use an abdominal compression garment for one month.
You can resume gentle, leisurely walks starting in the second week. Light cardiovascular exercise can be started in the fourth week, but any abdominal strength training or weightlifting must be suspended for a minimum of 6 weeks to protect internal healing.
