CLINICAL OVERVIEW

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a personalized surgical combination designed to restore body contours and tissues following pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Our philosophy prioritizes hemodynamic safety and structural balance. Combining abdominal and breast surgeries in a single operation requires strict control of operating time (we avoid surgeries exceeding 5 to 6 hours) and safe limits on fat extraction volume. We do not overload the body, and we select the appropriate combination of abdominoplasty and mastopexy with or without implants based on your baseline health.

We aim to reunite the separated rectus abdominis muscles (diastasis recti), remove excess stretched skin, and lift sagging breasts to restore a firm and proportional figure.

What changes

  • A flatter abdomen by skin removal and muscle plication
  • Repositioning and volume for sagging or deflated breasts
  • Definition of the waist and flanks in the same procedure

What stays the same

  • Massive weight loss (it is not an obesity surgery)
  • Skin elasticity during future pregnancies
  • The absence of scars (incisions are necessary)
TREATMENT AREAS

What does the plan typically include?

The Mommy Makeover is customized by combining key procedures to sculpt your entire silhouette:

Firm Abdomen

Complete Tummy Tuck

Removal of loose skin and stretch marks below the navel, while repair of distended rectus abdominis muscles is done via permanent internal sutures (plication).

Rejuvenated Breasts

Breast Lift and/or Augmentation

Elevation of sagging breast tissue, repositioning the nipple and areola to their ideal height, and adding silicone implants if you wish to restore volume.

Sculpted Contour

Flank Liposuction

Complementary extraction of fat from the waist and lower back to refine your hourglass silhouette and highlight the abdominal results.

* Not all cases require every procedure. We strictly plan what is safe and functional for you.

You may be a candidate if...

  • You have excess sagging skin and stretch marks on the lower abdomen that are difficult to eliminate with diet.
  • Your breasts look deflated, flat, or sagging following pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • A minimum of 6 months has passed since your last childbirth and you stopped breastfeeding at least 6 months ago.
  • You have decided not to plan any future pregnancies to maintain the long-term results.

It is advisable to evaluate alternatives if...

  • You are planning a new pregnancy in the short or medium term, which will reverse the tightening of the abdominal muscles.
  • You have an elevated body mass index (BMI) indicating severe obesity; you must lose weight before surgery for your safety.
  • You smoke actively and are unwilling to stop nicotine use, as it drastically increases the risks of skin necrosis and wound dehiscence.
DIAGNOSTIC STAGE

How We Define Your Plan

An individualized clinical evaluation is essential. During this consultation, we analyze the degree of your rectus diastasis, abdominal skin laxity, breast sagging, and overall health profile to plan a safe Mommy Makeover.

“We aim to restore your silhouette safely. We evaluate your general health to plan a combined surgery minimizing risks.”
Diagnosis of Diastasis Recti

We assess abdominal muscle separation through direct palpation to estimate the degree of plication required.

Breast Lift vs. Simple Augmentation Assessment

We determine if the breasts require only an implant to restore volume or if they need skin removal and lifting (mastopexy).

Estimation of Surgical Time and Blood Loss

We plan an efficient surgical sequence that does not exceed 5–6 hours of anesthesia, prioritizing your hemodynamic safety.

OPERATING ROOM

The Procedure, Explained Simply

IncisionsAbdominal and Inframammary

A low horizontal incision in the pubic area (easily hidden by bikini bottoms) and the corresponding breast incisions depending on the chosen technique.

SuturesRectus Muscle Plication

The stretched abdominal muscles are brought together and secured at the midline with high-strength, permanent sutures.

AnesthesiaGeneral Anesthesia

Performed under controlled and continuously monitored general anesthesia to ensure a safe combined surgery.

Hospital StayOvernight Hospitalization

Requires staying at least the first night in the hospital for strict drain monitoring and intravenous pain management.

PREOPERATIVE

Preparing for Your Surgery

Responsible preparation is essential to optimize surgical safety and facilitate a smooth, comfortable postoperative recovery.

01
Blood Work, ECG, and MammogramComprehensive preoperative lab tests, electrocardiogram, chest X-rays, and bilateral screening mammograms.
02
Complete Cessation of SmokingIt is mandatory to stop smoking and vaping at least 4 to 6 weeks prior, as nicotine severely compromises blood circulation to the abdominal and breast skin.
03
Postsurgical Garments ReadyAcquire the rigid postsurgical abdominal compression binder and the specialized support bra as previously instructed.
POSTOPERATIVE RECOVERY

Recovery Timeline

Combining abdominal and breast surgeries makes the initial recovery demanding, requiring assistance at home for the first 7 days.

Days 1 to 7 — Semi-Flexed Position

You must walk slightly bent forward at the waist to avoid putting tension on the abdominal suture line. Drains will remain in place and must be measured daily. Rest in bed is required except for very brief walks.

Days 10 to 14 — Drain and Suture Removal

Once fluid output is minimal, drains and external sutures are removed in the office. You can gradually begin to stand fully upright.

Week 3 — Light Work Return

Return to desk jobs or sedentary work activities. You must continue wearing the abdominal binder and compression bra continuously.

Months 2 to 3 — Return to Exercise & Final Results

Light cardiovascular exercise can be resumed, gradually integrating normal workouts while avoiding heavy strain on the abdomen. Swelling resolves completely during this period.

ETHICAL COMMITMENT

Surgical Safety and Realistic Expectations

As with any major combined surgery, a Mommy Makeover requires an ethical clinical analysis. During your medical consultation, we evaluate your abdominal skin elasticity, the degree of diastasis, breast volume, and medical history to minimize risks and confirm if the surgery is suitable for you.

An individualized clinical evaluation defines the anatomical viability of your post-maternity reconstruction.

Abdominal ScarsThe tummy tuck incision is long and horizontal, placed low so that it can be concealed by underwear or swimwear.
Risks of SmokingSmoking and vaping compromise blood flow to the abdominal flaps. Smoking is strictly prohibited.
Prior Pregnancy & BreastfeedingIt is mandatory to wait 6 months after stopping breastfeeding to allow breast tissue to stabilize.
Thrombosis PreventionWe implement strict preventive measures, including compression stockings and early ambulation.

Mommy Makeover Cost: What Determines the Budget

The cost of a Mommy Makeover should not be defined generically or without a prior medical evaluation. Each surgical quote is individualized and corresponds to the specific details of your case.

During your consultation, Dr. Uriel Muñoz will evaluate your anatomy and define a tailored surgical plan. The final cost of the procedure is determined based on the following factors:

  • The specific combination of surgeries (e.g., tummy tuck + breast augmentation with implants).
  • The volume and extent of the associated body contouring liposuction.
  • Operating room fees at a certified, safe hospital.
  • Surgical team fees and postoperative follow-up consultations.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions About Mommy Makeover

It is essential to wait a minimum of 6 months after completely stopping breastfeeding and at least 6 months after childbirth. This allows the breast tissues to stabilize and heal internally, and the uterus and abdomen to return to their baseline anatomical state.
The most common combination includes a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty to remove excess sagging skin and correct muscle separation or diastasis recti) along with breast surgery (either breast augmentation with implants, a breast lift, or both) and liposuction of the flanks to refine the waistline.
Diastasis recti is the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles that normally occurs during pregnancy to accommodate the baby. During the abdominoplasty phase of a Mommy Makeover, a muscle plication is performed, meaning the muscles are reunited at the midline using strong, permanent sutures, acting as an internal corset.
There are no medical risks to the baby's development. However, a new pregnancy will stretch the skin and newly repaired muscle fibers once again, significantly compromising and reversing the aesthetic results achieved in the abdomen and breasts. Therefore, it is recommended to undergo the surgery only when you no longer plan to have more children.
Because it is a combined procedure, recovery is more demanding. You will need between 14 and 21 days of downtime and rest at home. You will need to walk slightly bent forward for the first 7 to 10 days to avoid tension on the abdominal wound and wear a rigid postsurgical compression garment continuously for a month.
