What is a facelift?

The facelift (rhytidectomy or facelift) is a surgery to improve the flaccidity and loss of definition of the face, mainly in the following areas cheeks, jaw line and often, neck.
The idea is not to “stretch the skin”, but rather to reposition the tissues to restore a firmer contour to the face and a smoother appearance. more rested.

In the assessment, the real scope is defined: what should be corrected, what should be preserved and what result is reasonable to expect according to your anatomy and tissue quality.

Facelift: what it does and does not correct

A facelift is usually helpful when the main change is sagging (cheeks, less pronounced jaw, less clean neck).
This is not the ideal procedure when the concern is only skin surface quality (blemishes, pores, texture), as this usually requires specific complementary treatments.

What does a facelift usually include?

The plan is customized, but often works on:

Cheeks and middle third
Repositioning to improve contouring and soften sagging.

Jaw line (cheeks/jowls)
Definition of the mandibular border when the “oval” of the face has been lost.

Neck (when applicable)
If the neck already shows flaccidity or bands, it is defined if it is convenient to treat it in the same surgical time.

Scope is defined in valuation. The goal is for the result to look natural and proportionate, not “forced”.

Who is it for?

  • You notice sagging of the cheeks and jawline that no longer improves with non-surgical options.

  • Looking for a change structural (contouring), rather than a change in skin “texture”.

  • You want a plan with criteria: what to do and what not to force.

Alternatives should be evaluated if...

  • Your main concern is fat double chin with elastic skin (sometimes another approach is sufficient).

  • You are looking for an immediate change with no recovery time.

  • Your expectation is to “change your face” rather than to rejuvenate it maintaining identity.

Facelift assessment: how we define your plan

The assessment is the key step. This is where diagnosis, scope and next steps are defined.

Objective and priorities

What do you want to improve and what change would be proportional in your case.

Facial analysis

Relationship between cheeks, jaw, chin and neck (evaluated as a whole).

Anatomy and tissue quality

Skin type, structural support and factors influencing evolution.

Recommended range

What should be adjusted, what should be retained and what limits exist.

Surgical plan and logistics

Venue (Puerto Vallarta or Tepic), anesthesia and control schedule.

“A clear plan, with aligned expectations, defined next steps and space to resolve doubts.”

The procedure, explained in simple terms

  • What we are looking for: repositioning tissues to improve cheeks, jaw and, when applicable, neck.

  • How the technique is decided: depends on your anatomy (e.g. SMAS or deep plane approach depending on the case).

  • Scars: are planned to fit in natural creases around the ear and hairline (varies per case).

  • What is defined in valuation: scope and combination with neck or other procedures when it really brings harmony.

Preparation (before surgery)

The preparation is simple, but it is the one thing that reduces bruising and speeds up your recovery: it comes with your body “ready to heal”.

Recovery and follow-up

Recovery is progressive and is accompanied by scheduled check-ups.
  • First days: swelling and sensation of tightness; relative rest.

  • First to second week: control of bruises and inflammation; revisions and removal of stitches according to evolution.

  • Subsequent weeks: the face is deflated and the contour is gradually defined.

The medical follow-up allows to adjust care and resolve doubts as the patient's evolution progresses.

Risks and considerations

As any surgery, there are risks. The most relevant are explained in consultation according to your case (for example: hematomas, infection, temporary changes in sensitivity, variable scarring, slight asymmetries).
The key point is that the plan fits your anatomy and your priorities, and postoperative follow-up is part of the process.

These points are explained individually during the appraisal.

Medical Philosophy

Medical tourism in Puerto Vallarta + coordination

If you are coming from another city or country, you can start with a virtual consultation and organize your process with the support of a patient coordinator.

What it does include:

- Flow orientation: steps, agenda and logistical recommendations.
- Support to reach assessment with clarity.

What it does not include:

Flights and direct hotel reservations (we give you the freedom to choose according to your budget).
